"Calamity Cash" Interview at The Booster Pack

Apologies. I'm a little behind on posting this.

I was interviewed this past week on "The Booster Pack" by Terry Bartley - a local Clark Kent-type who runs a blog/news site with a proper Justice League that describes itself as "A Variety Pack of All Things Geeky." Covering everything from comics, to cons, to movies, and Magic, and more, I had the pleasure of having a short conversation with Terry about "Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name," where the idea came from, what our distribution model has been like, and all the support we've gotten along the way. It's a only a little over 20 minutes long, and well worth a listen, if I can say so myself.

And make sure to keep following The Booster Pack for all your pop culture-related news, and my interviewer, Terry Bartley, on Twitter @terrybartley. And thanks, Terry!

And buy "Calamity Cash & the Town with No Name" here:

"Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name" (25 pages, $3.50, plus shipping): The mother/daughter vigilante team of Tana and Cal Cash are on the run from an Afro-rocking, Kung-Fu assassin, and have been forced to make their last stand in a nameless desert town hiding an unbelievable secret - every last citizen is in the Witness Protection program! Out of gas, low on ammo, and with their backs against the wall, Calamity and Mama Cash become the town's unlikely protectors, but with friends so quickly becoming enemies, and old enemies becoming friends, is the whole place doomed to burn? And will our heroines be the ones to light the first match? A modern-day action/adventure western with words by Randall Nichols, and art by Justin Cornell.

"Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name" - Second Printing!

The first print run of "Calamity Cash & the Town with No Name" has sold out! While I'm not going to say it's impossible, if you were looking to get a first run copy of the comic, you're more or less out of luck. But don't worry - that doesn't mean you still can't buy your own issue of "Calamity Cash" - they're still on sale, as we gear up for our second print run, and a couple of exciting things on the horizon.

You can place an order via the button on the sidebar, or here:

Can't begin to tell you how thankful, and excited I am about this. The honest fact is, I never truly expected these to sell in any real sense, and the fact that I've run through all of my stock really gives me a charge - and makes me realize I have some very good, very generous friends. There's no overstating how grateful the whole Calamity Cash team is right now.

You may have noticed a few changes to The Mojo Wire too. With a new, quick-and-simple url [www.themojowire.org], a bunch of handy web buttons to help you share these posts all over your social networking sites, and some general cleanup of the Blog Roll which... well, it was an accident that the new home ate the old one, but it was probably for the best. [By the by - if you have a blog, and I don't have it listed in the sidebar, and you'd like it to be, email me at mojo.wire.productions@gmail.com.] It's a whole new world.

And next week, maybe the week after - "Calamity Cash Fan Appreciation Week." What is it? You'll see.

With apologies to Neil Armstrong. And David Bowie. I guess.

Ground control to Neil Armstrong.
Commencing countdown, engines on.
Check ignition and may God's love be with you.

This is ground control to Neil Armstrong, you've really made the grade
Such a kind man, the papers say your heart was too big to bear.
Where you’re going no one will ever steal your hair.

Some say you punched some dude in the face,
For questioning the Space Race,
But you were a peaceful gentleman,
That prick was Buzz Aldrin.
And now you’re floating in a most peculiar way,
And the stars look very different today
Sitting in a tin can far above the world
You put up your thumb, blotted out the Earth

Though you’re past one hundred thousand miles, it’s okay now to be still
You of all of us know which way to go [Up]
Just know we love you very much, just in case you didn’t know
Ground control to Neil Armstrong, now that you’re dead, there's something wrong,
Can you hear us Neil Armstrong?
Can you hear us Neil Armstrong?
Can you...

Once you walked there, now you’re sitting on the moon,
You’re gone and Earth is blue, and there’s nothing we can do.

[This was meant with as much respect as possible, for a man that was pretty much everyone's hero at one point in their lives. You shall be missed. August 5, 1930-August 25, 2012]

Buyout: "Calamity Cash" Still on Sale and "The Breaking Bad Midnight Show" Ep. 2

The first printing of "Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name" has almost sold out. Almost! If you haven't gotten a copy of the comic yet, but are planning to buy one, now would be the time. In fact, even if you plan to purchase one at a later date, and just can't yet make the order yet, I must encourage you to write me at calamitycash@gmail.com, and talk to me about reserving one, because with only a handful left I can't make a lot of promises about availability going forward.

You can order there on the sidebar, on Justin's website, or by clicking this handy little button specially made for mobile users:

Synopsis after the jump:

"Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name" (25 pages, $4.50 w/shipping - Special Introductory Price!): The mother/daughter vigilante team of Tana and Cal Cash are on the run from an Afro-rocking, Kung-Fu assassin, and have been forced to make their last stand in a nameless desert town hiding an unbelievable secret - every last citizen is in the Witness Protection program! Out of gas, low on ammo, and with their backs against the wall, Calamity and Mama Cash become the town's unlikely protectors, but with friends so quickly becoming enemies, and old enemies becoming friends, is the whole place doomed to burn? Now, there are a few things in the works which make a second printing pretty likely. However, this first run was specially-priced, and once we have to print more the price will go up - by about a dollar an issue. This is to recoup shipping and handling from the printer to us, and then from us to you. Totally unavoidable, or we'd continue to offer the $4.50 introductory price from here on out. My apologies, for sure.

But also another a really good reason to order now.

Also! This week, I joined Sarah Crow again on her Spreecast Channel, where we had the second Breaking Bad Midnight Show for this week's episode - "Buy Out." These have went really well, and will likely be a regular thing until the end of the series - meaning two more this season, and maybe a bunch next year as things begin to wind down. If you watch the show first run, it's a lot of fun to get in on [if I can say without flattering myself], and a Breaking Bad dead-pool is starting to take shape...

You know you want to.

And, like last time, spoilers, sweeties.

Cash for Cash, Breaking Bad, Calamity Cash on Geeking Ally!'s pull...

Big news! "Calamity Cash & the Town with No Name" has made The Weekly Pull over on GeekingAlly! featured right alongside big name comic books like Daredevil and [a personal favorite of mine] Batwoman. GeekingAlly! is a great site, and you should be checking it out for all your comic, movie, horror, and fandom news, but if you're not... well, get over there! And thanks, Ally!

I also want to thank everyone who has ordered "Calamity Cash" so far. Orders have been much higher than expected, and I've even gotten some pictures of happy customers with the book, which just... its hard to describe seeing friends both near and far hanging out with your work in their hand. I'll likely features these pictures in the coming weeks here on the blog, unless I can think of something even more interesting to do with them [minds out of the gutters! Damn Facebook generation...].

Copies of "Calamity Cash and the Town with No Name" are still available to buy, either via the pretty button on the sidebar, or this less fancy, but mobile-friendly version:

Though thinning, the book's still stock. And if you have any problems, money issues, address changes, or questions, feel free to message us at calamitycash@gmail.com.

And since it's Wednesday night, and hopefully you should all be spoiler-free by now, I joined Sarah Crow on her Spreecast channel this past Sunday for "The Breaking Bad Midnight Show" - just a fun hour or so of me and Sarah re-capping, dissecting, and generally geeking out about the best show on television - you guessed it, AMC's "Breaking Bad." It was an absolutely blast, and looks like it could become a weekly thing, at least for the rest of the season, as we wind down to the very end of the meth-making fantasia of Walt and Jesse in Arizona.

Not to pat myself on the back, but it's really the kind of fandom I really love - just two people talking about something they've gotten invested in. I hope you'll check it out, check out Sarah's other Spreecasts [a few of which always feature me], and maybe join us if we do another this Sunday.

Oh, and before you tune in - just in case: Spoilers, sweeties.

I want to start off by saying thank you for everyone who has ordered "Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name." When Justin, Laura, and I started off, we never really expected to sell any of these, and now have quite a few orders to fulfill - but we're not out yet. There's still some inventory in stock, and still time to get yours if you haven't already.

In the last day or so, a few people have told me they've had some trouble purchasing the book from the website's sidebar on their mobile devices and RSS feeds. Since so many people do access the internet solely from their phone, tablet, or the like now, I thought I'd add a minimalist "Buy Now" button below.

Again, thank you all so much. Each new order gives me such a charge. Justin and I spent the day yesterday signing them, and putting them into protective bags with cardboard backs.

For your $4.50 you'll get a copy of the 25-page comic "Calamity Cash & The Town with No Name," the long-collaboration between Justin Cornell, Randall Nichols, and Laura Calandros. The book will be signed by the writer [Randall], and the artist [Justin], and then placed in a Golden Age-style comic book bag with a cardboard back and safely mailed to you.

If for some reason you would like a copy of the book but can't afford it [or are a fellow creative/starving artist more interested in making some kind of trade], then please, email us at calamitycash@gmail.com. Because of budget constraints, we would at least like to make back the cost of shipping on these books, and we're willing to work with anyone excited to have a copy, but currently unable to purchase one. Drop us a line, and we'll work something out.

I know some people do not have a credit or debit card, or are still uncomfortable purchasing things online. Again, use the email above [calamitycash@gmail.com] and we'll do our best to accommodate you, even if that has to involve some late-night, Los Pollos Hermanos-style dead drop. Naturally, we're excited for this project to finally be done, and if you're excited too, we want to reward your support and enthusiasm if at all possible.

Finally, if you have any special instructions, feel free to include them with your order or contact us by email. You can reach me on Facebook at facebook.com/randallnichols or on Twitter @themojowire. You can also reach Justin through the contact information on his website justincornell.blogspot.com. Though for all Calamity Cash-related chicanery, calamitycash@gmail.com is still your best bet.

I want to thank everyone who has helped us get here, and encouraged us along the way. So much thanks goes to our co-creator, Laura Calandros, who helped start this project during a late-night drive through the boondocks, and who financed for us. To all of you, placing orders, thank you, in advance - all proceeds of this comic go back into the comic, to print more, and get our work out there.
